Prof. Bart Besselink (University of Groningen) Gives Talk at SOMLab
We are honored to have invited Prof. Bart Besselink from the University of Groningen to give an excellent academic talk titled “Modular analysis of linear systems using assume-guarantee contracts” at our research group.
Biography
Bart Besselink is an assistant professor at the Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. He received his MSc degree (cum laude) in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 and his PhD in 2012, both from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands. In 2012, he was a visiting researcher at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan; from 2012 to 2016, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Automatic Control Department and ACCESS Linnaeus Center at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, working with Prof. Karl H. Johansson. His main research interests include modular analysis and control of large-scale interconnected systems, nonlinear systems, and applications in intelligent transportation systems. He is the recipient of the 2020 Automatica Paper Prize.
Abstract
The increasing complexity of modern engineering systems requires a fundamentally modular design and analysis theory, i.e., one that allows for independent analysis of subsystems. This talk will introduce such a theory through the introduction of “assume-guarantee” contracts for linear dynamical systems, inspired by contract theory from computer science and utilizing behavioral systems theory.
