IEEE Fellow, Prof. Ming Cao (University of Groningen) Gives Talk at SOMLab
We are honored to have invited IEEE Fellow, Prof. Ming Cao from the University of Groningen to give an excellent academic talk titled “Angle rigidity graph theory and its applications to formation movement of multi-agent systems” at our research group.
Biography
Prof. Ming Cao (IEEE Fellow) has been Professor of Networks and Robotics at the Engineering and Technology institute Groningen (ENTEG), University of Groningen, the Netherlands, since 2016, where he started as an assistant professor in 2008. Since 2022, he has been the Dean of the Jantina Tammes School of Digital Society, Technology and AI. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Tsinghua University in 1999 and 2002, respectively, and his PhD from Yale University, USA, in 2007. From 2007 to 2008, he was a research associate at Princeton University, USA. In 2006, he was an intern at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, USA. He is the recipient of the inaugural IFAC Manfred Thoma Medal in 2017 and the European Control Award sponsored by the European Control Association (EUCA) in 2016.
Abstract
Partly inspired by the movement of animal groups, particularly migrating bird flocks, our research group has explored fascinating mechanisms for achieving global collective motion coordination using local angular sensing signals. The design of formation control strategies for teams of mobile robots can benefit from a better understanding of how animals achieve sensing or communication topologies within groups.
