IEEE Fellow, Prof. Sandra Hirche (Technical University of Munich) Gives Talk at SOMLab

We are honored to have invited IEEE Fellow, Prof. Sandra Hirche from Technical University of Munich to give an excellent academic talk titled “Online Learning Control with Robust Performance guarantees” at our research group.

Biography

Prof. Sandra Hirche holds the Liesel Beckmann Distinguished Chair at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and has been the director of the Chair of Information-Oriented Control at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science since 2013. She received her diploma in Aeronautical Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin in 2002 and her PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Munich in 2005. From 2005 to 2007, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Fujita Lab, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Before her current position, she was an associate professor at TUM. Her main research interests include learning control, cooperative control, and networked control, with applications in human-robot interaction, multi-robot systems, and general robotics. She has published over 200 papers in international journals, books, and peer-reviewed conferences.

Abstract

Control design that allows complex systems to operate in unstructured, only partially known, and possibly changing environments is a major challenge in the field of systems and control. Application areas include healthcare robotics, autonomous surveillance and rescue, service, and logistics. In addition to adaptability, robust performance guarantees including safety are key issues. This talk will introduce our recent results on learning-based control of highly uncertain systems with performance and safety guarantees.
